We mourn the lives lost and acknowledge the deep shock, grief, and fear this violence has caused.
This was an antisemitic act of hatred intended to divide and dehumanise. As social workers, we see every day how violence and prejudice harm not only individuals, but whānau and whole communities, often long after the headlines fade.
ANZASW condemns all forms of hatred and violence and affirms our commitment to the safety, dignity, and humanity of all people. We know that trauma ripples outward, and that healing requires justice, solidarity, and compassion.
Moments like this call us to act: to stand alongside those affected, to speak out clearly against antisemitism and all forms of hate, and to work together to address the conditions that allow extremism to take root.
Violence cannot be answered with violence. We must model unity, care, and courage, and use our collective voice and skills as social workers to uphold and protect human dignity.
